Home Remodeling Tips and Tricks

This article splits home remodeling into two major areas; the inside and the outside of the home. It then provides two easy remodel projects for the both the inside and outside of the home.

Remodeling your home is a never ending proposition. Once you seemingly finish you always find something else that needs a tweak here, or a cranny that needs an improvement there. There are many places and approaches to remodeling; from large scale operations such as re-roofing to smaller scale ones such as refinishing the flooring. Come and discover some easy, smaller scale home remodels that you can do.

It is best to split the home into two main areas when considering remodeling: the inside and the outside. The inside contains all that is within your doors, lighting, pipes, kitchen, bathroom, etc. while the outside is everything outside of your front door, paint color, roofing, landscaping and so forth. Let's focus on some easy remodels you can do on the inside and outside of your home.

Outside

The easiest outside remodel project is installing motion sensor lighting. This is an easy to do and manageable remodel that increases your home's value and decreases your electric bill. Choose a few locations on your home that have a good view of your land. Common choices are on the corner of the garage, above the front and back doors, and under the apex of the roof on the side of your home.

Then purchase motion- triggered lighting and rig it up. This will increase the value of your home because it is an additional security measure and decrease your electric bill because you no longer need to keep the light on for the entire night. Make sure you follow all safety instructions when installing the lights and be doubly sure the power is cut before attaching the wires.

The next recommended outside remodel project is a good yard cleaning followed by a multi-tiered garden. The first step is self-explanatory; clean your yard as thoroughly as you would your bathroom. Re-sod any dead areas or areas infected with crabgrass in your lawn. Re-mulch your hedges and flower beds.

Next clear out a space for a garden (we're talking vegetables, herbs and spices). Build up a multi-tier semi circle of wooden planters. The back row should be about waist height and the very front row should be in the ground soil. Fill the back row up with soil and plant the veggies or herbs that need the most attention. That way you will not be constantly bending over when you care for them. This multi-tiered garden has a very nice visual impact and is functional as well.

Inside

Dormer windows are a great project that you can tackle on your own. These windows look great and increase the area of livable space in your home. Make sure you double check with the building zone head office to make sure you are not violating any codes before installing these windows. There are a lot of do-it-yourself guides available online that will walk you through the dormer window install process.

A fresh coat of paint n the walls is another easy remodel project that makes any room feel bright and new. Try to match the color with the mood you want the room to have and make sure you have accent pieces that go well with your color choice.
